2006 Nathaniel Coleman and Hattie Jane (Lynch) Moss Reunion

The 25th annual Nathaniel Coleman and Hattie Jane (Lynch) Moss reunion held on Sunday, September 3, 2006 at Cedar Creek State Park brought 140 family members together again to celebrate their heritage. We were delighted to welcome a number of new babies to the family as well as several first-time attendees.

Wilbert Reed provided a blessing for our meal, a buffet of wonderful covered dishes enjoyed by all. Following the meal, Linda Goodrich began the children’s games, and reunion president Daniel Moss called the meeting to order.

Following announcements about forthcoming improvements to the shelter area for 2007, the committee distributed applications for awarding an annual Nathaniel Moss scholarship allowance for eligible family members. Additional criteria were discussed and voted on by family members. The first scholarship will be awarded in May 2007 and also will be announced at next year’s reunion.

Family members also voted to renew contributions to the caretaking of Nathaniel’s burial site in the Karickhoff Cemetery and for Hattie’s burial site in the Upper Steer Run Cemetery.

Collene Powers won the family door prize, a large custom made Amish basket provided by descendants of Leeman Moss. Other family members enjoyed smaller door prizes including mini-camcorders, canvas chairs, and a three-person tent. A prize was also awarded to Sierra Moss, the youngest in attendance at just seven weeks.

Paul Moss facilitated family updates from representatives of each of Nathaniel and Hattie’s children, including a report on the welfare of their last living child, Viola Whitesel, 96 of Grafton, OH as well as announcement of the newest descendant, Sydney Grace Sprouse of Elkins, WV, born just one day prior to the reunion. Daniel and Kelli Moss were re-elected as president and secretary/treasurer, respectively, and Pam Tuley and Carol Jarvis were elected to organize and run the children’s games for 2007. Bobby Beall then led an auction of family foods, crafts and other novelties, and family members reminisced and enjoyed games of water balloon and egg tosses as well as horseshoes.
